Hampshire Company, the first to develop a touch screen controller for USB communication and the world leader in universal touch screen electronics and software has announced the release of their smallest universal RS-232 and USB touch screen controller board which supports all 4, 5, or 8 wire analog resistive touch screens regardless of construction or manufacturer.
The "Devil Ray" board is the first of three new controller designs being released by Hampshire in 2006. With the same small foot print as Hampshire's mini controller, the Devil Ray will bring a USB solution to the small form factor controller offering. To reduce your overall costs, the Devil Ray controller supports both industry standard 4 wire and 5 wire touch screen (including Microtouch and Elotouch) pin-outs. A four (4) position LIF connector is also available for integrating low cost 1mm flex tail 4-wire touch screens.
The latest Hampshire chip design utilized on the Devil Ray board includes an on chip, ratio-metric 10 bit, A-D converter which maintains Hampshire's high level of performance while reducing costs. The on-board TSHARC™ "A0" micro-controller is field programmable to enable future utility or performance enhancements and incorporates Hampshire's latest proprietary touch screen decoding technology. Hampshire boards and device driver software have maintained compatibility since the release of the original TSHARC-8 controller board and driver set in 1995.
